Resume 101 Workshops

  • Thu, December 12, 2024
  • 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM
  • Zoom

We are excited to be hosting two resume workshops with industry experts, Emma Carew Grovum and Justin Myers. Both sessions will be open to TJA members who are looking to sharpen their resumes. They'll go over some best practices and review example resumes. They may also give live feedback to your resume — if you send it to them!

This workshop is for any career level, whether early-career or late-career. You'll come away with at least one concrete improvement you can make to your resume.

TJA members can attend either or both sessions.

Session #1 is December 10, 2:00 pm ET.

Session #2 is December 12, 4:30 pm ET.

More about your facilitators:

Emma Carew Grovum is the director of careers and culture at The Marshall Project and also the founder of Kimbap Media, a consultancy solving problems at the intersection of technology and audience. In addition to bringing anti-racism interventions to newsrooms, Emma coaches journalists on leadership, product thinking, and digital transformation. She is a co-founder and regular contributor to the News Product Alliance, runs a leadership accelerator for journalists of color called Upward, and co-hosts Sincerely, Leaders of Color, a space for anyone interested in building a safer industry for journalists of color. She currently serves on the board of directors of Prism, a women/BIPOC-centered news startup.

Justin Myers (any pronouns) is a Chicago-based data journalist, visual journalist, developer and parent. They joined the Chicago Sun-Times in fall 2023 as its interactives editor. Before that, they were the data editor for The Associated Press, where they supported both data journalists across the U.S. and reporting projects around the world. They enjoy making things out of flour, yarn and code—but rarely at the same time.

How does this work?

Emma and Justin will co-lead both sessions, and the content will be similar. There will be an interactive component, so the exact discussions may vary.

If you're not currently a TJA member, you can join now. Membership is free!

How much does this cost?

These workshops are free to TJA members.

It's important to us that professional development opportunities remain free to trans journalists, many of whom are full-time freelancers. It's also important to us to compensate our speakers.

If you want to support events like this, you can make a tax-deductible donation.
