When personal identity and professional beat intersect, journalism gains powerful depth and perspective. This webinar, hosted by the Trans Journalists Association in partnership with The Institute for Independent Journalists, brings together reporters and editors who cover issues that directly impact the communities they are part of—from trans journalists reporting on trans rights to immigrant journalists covering immigration.
Through an open and thoughtful conversation, speakers will share best practices for navigating these dual roles with integrity, empathy, and rigor. Participants will gain insight into how lived experience can strengthen reporting while upholding the highest standards of ethics and journalistic impact.
Speakers:
- Drew Costley, New Orleans-based freelance journalist and editor
